Birth Place of The Holy Prophet

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was born on the early morning of Monday the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal (April 3rd, 571 AD) in Makkah. He was named Muhammad (the Praised one, peace be upon him) by his grand-father Abdul Muttalib. The ravages of time have destroyed the original building but the place is the same where stood Abdullah's house the father of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), who belonged to the family of Hashim the noblest tribe of the clan of Quresh.

701 suspected militants arrested in Saudi Arabia in 2008

Riyadh – Jamad Al Akher 22 1429/ June 26, 2008 – Saudi security forces have arrested 701 suspected militants this year, some of them suspected of plotting attacks against the oil and economic installations, a source at the Interior Ministry announced in a statement yesterday. Out of those arrested, 181 were released because there was no proof of linking them to the terror network, while 520 remain in custody, the statement said. Among the detainees were some of Asian and African nationality. Some planned to use car bombs in attacks on an oil and a security target in coordination with Al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman Al-Zawahri who would send fighters from Iraq, Afghanistan and North Africa to back them up.

Opening OIC Conference, Museveni questions West's definition of terrorism

Kampala – Jamad Al Akher 15 1429/ June 19, 2008 – Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni questioned America and other western countries' understanding of terrorism. While opening the 35th Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) at Munyonyo Speke Resort here on Wednesday, Museveni said there seems to be a mix up in the definitions of terrorism. "Americans and Israelis are mixing liberation with just causes and the methods they use to achieve this liberation. That indiscriminate use of violence on everyone including noncombatants is what is terrorism," said the President to applause from his audience. He said most times Americans and Israelis carry out attacks but expect no one to attack them and when they are attacked they call it terrorism."If you attack a military convoy or base, that's not terrorism! The question is who are you attacking and as long as your target is combatants there is no problem because in war all sides launch attacks," Museveni said.

First phase of Masa’a expansion nearing completion

Makkah – Jamad Al Akher 24 1429/ June 28, 2008 – The first phase of the Masa’a (area for the ritual of Sa'i between the hills of Safa and Marwa) Expansion at the Haram Mosque is nearing completion. More than 3,000 construction workers are giving finishing touches to the project around the clock. The second phase of the project will start implementing after next Haj, said Eng. Abdul Mohsen bin Humeid, director general of projects at the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Haram Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.

200 religious leaders to attend Madrid Interfaith Conference

Makkah – Jamad Al Akher 21 1429/ June 25, 2008 – The Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL) has extended invitation to some 200 prominent religious figures representing Islam, Christianity and Judaism from around the world to attend the forthcoming global interfaith dialogue conference. MWL, in cooperation with the Spanish government, will organize the conference in Madrid, capital of Spain, on July 16-18. "There was an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Spain regarding the conference being convened in the Spanish capital. The conference would discuss various topics, including social amity, international cooperation, human rights and peaceful co-existence," said Dr. Abdullah Al Turki, secretary-general of MWL. The call for dialogue conference was made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz after he won the backing of leading Islamic scholars from across the world at the International Islamic Dialogue Conference held in Makkah earlier this month.
